Searching for a new clutch

I haven’t had the time to post and update – life got busy.

In the background I have been researching for a new clutch for the civic. The Exedy race clutch started to slip under heavy boost, and it provided too much work to keep the car in motion. Who knew a Honda could be a torque monster…

Why not stay with Exedy? Well, that was their “race clutch” and the next level is their Hyper line which, let’s be honest its not cheap.  In hindsight, this is where I should have started my journey instead matching to power. This is a race car.

So far on my list:

  • SPEC
  • Competition
  • ACT
  • MASTER

I have been corresponding on email and multiple phone calls with manufactures’ to see what is available. I am starting to get the hint that they all love buzz words like “Stage X” or 200% more than stock. It seems that most products are more for the tuner market and less for racing. No one wants to give me specifications at all – why so secret?

I know, I’m painting a picture of a clutch failure, but it could also be the pressure plate that’s failed or maybe a combination of both clutch and pressure plate. I won’t know until I pull the transmission out and at the same time I don’t want to play the waiting game for parts either.

Lastly, the racing budget keeps going up (one wonders what’s the point). I’m adding to the list a Hans device and most likely a safety net inside for the arm.

Back to the grind and things that I need:

A lot of things going on have put the race car on the back burner. There just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in a day.

  • HANs Device
  • Full gauge cluster.
  • Clutch (Pretty much will be going towards an ACT combination)
  • Datalogger (decided on another model)
  • New tiresR888 or Goodyear:)
  • new wheels (again) – arghhh
  • Some EG love for the body work
  • I need to find a way to keep the motor cooler
  • Brakes —> When the pads turn colour and the rotor as well. I will need some serious cooling

They talk about an economic down turn….
